Welcome
Oscar Wilde, 1882, by Napoleon Sarony
This sequence is designed for an intensive 2-week English course which will take place during the holidays (see official instructions). It is aimed at Terminale L students, more specifically LELE classes, who are required to reach a B2 level by the end of the year and read at least one work of fiction.
Your final task will be to create a trailer for Oscar Wilde's 1894 play The Importance of Being Earnest, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People.
In order to prepare for this demanding task, you will carry out a series of sub-tasks:
Every stage of your work will be assessed by your teacher (take a look at the evaluation grid) but before you start, you should self-evaluate your language and technical skills [Ask for password by e-mail if your teacher hasn't provided it, and check "remember password" on your computer: you'll need it again]. As you progress, continue assessing yourself and review what you've learnt at the end of the sequence.
Apart from the actual shooting of the trailer, all the activities are online. You'll need a high speed internet connection as well as a microphone to record your voice and make podcasts. The tools can be found within the pages or in the "Props" section: among them, you will find the forum (which you will use a lot to share and discuss ideas) and a collaborative writing tool. You might also want to use the reference page if you have questions about grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. More links are given to those who wish to go further.
You should be able to view this website and access the online activities with any operating system (Mac or Windows) as well as with most browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox etc.), but if you're using an iPhone or iPad you won't be able to see all the videos or use all the widgets (namely the online voice recorder and the text-to-speech tool).
